Project: SAFARI 2000
Project: SAFARI 2000The SAFARI 2000 project was an international science initiative to study the linkages between land and atmosphere processes in the southern African region. In addition, SAFARI 2000 examined the relationship of biogenic, pyrogenic, and anthropogenic emissions and the consequences of their deposition to the functioning of the biogeophysical and biogeochemical systems of southern Africa. This initiative, which was conducted in 1999-2001, was built around a number of ongoing, already-funded activities by NASA, the international community, and African nations in the southern African region.
Data Set: SAFARI 2000 ER-2 Color-IR Aerial Photography, Dry Season 2000
Data Set: SAFARI 2000 ER-2 Color-IR Aerial Photography, Dry Season 2000Aerial photography from the NASA ER-2 high-altitude aircraft was collected to provide detailed and spatially extensive documentation over parts of the SAFARI study area. The ER-2 aerial photography consists of 3,046 color-infrared (IR) transparencies collected during the SAFARI 2000 Dry Season Aircraft Campaign in August and September of 2000. ORNL DAAC has archived scanned subsets of the ER-2 aerial photography. In addition, 515 image frames have been scanned from copies of the original level-0 ER-2 aerial photography by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), in Pretoria, South Africa. ORNL DAAC has archived subsets of the available imagery from ARC and Wits.
