Data Set Overview
|Data set||CMS: Soil CO2 Efflux and Properties, Site Vegetation Measurements, Mexico, 2011-2012|
|Project||Carbon Monitoring System (CMS)|
|Time Period||2011-08-01 to 2012-08-31|
This data set provides the results of (1) monthly measurements of soil CO2 efflux, volumetric water content, and temperature, and (2) seasonal measurements of soil (porosity, bulk density, nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) content) and vegetation (leaf area index (LAI), litter and fine root biomass) properties in a water-limited ecosystem in Baja California, Mexico. Measurements and samples were collected from August 2011 to August 2012.

Carbon Monitoring System (CMS): The NASA Carbon Monitoring System (CMS) is designed to make significant contributions in characterizing, quantifying, understanding, and predicting the evolution of global carbon sources and sinks through improved monitoring of carbon stocks and fluxes. The System will use the full range of NASA satellite observations and modeling/analysis capabilities to establish the accuracy, quantitative uncertainties, and utility of products for supporting national and international policy, regulatory, and management activities. CMS will maintain a global emphasis while providing finer scale regional information, utilizing space-based and surface-based data and will rapidly initiate generation and distribution of products both for user evaluation and to inform near-term policy development and planning.
