Objectives:

The LBA experiment, over its nearly 6 years of existence, has generated countless important scientific results regarding the functioning of Amazonian ecosystems and how this functioning is being altered by anthropic actions, documenting many aspects of the dynamics and rates of these changes. This knowledge can and must have an important role in the formulation of sustainable development policies for Amazonia, through generation of knowledge and production of critical analyses of factors that modify the natural regime and the socio-economic situation, both intrinsically interdependent in Amazonia. The objectives of this panel meeting are to present syntheses of important results from LBA in its thematic areas, to discuss among different interested sectors (governmental decision-makers, NGOs, organized civil society, etc.) strategies of incorporation of these results into the formulation of public policies for Amazonia, and to provoke a reflection on the role of science for sustainable development in Amazonia.
