Progress in understanding land-surface-atmosphere coupling over the Amazon: a review
How much has our understanding of land-surface atmosphere coupling advanced during the ten years of LBA? This overview will trace some of the developments over the last decade, discuss our improved understanding of microphysical and aerosol processes, and assess some of the unsolved issues in modeling surface and atmospheric processes over the Amazon. Accurate representation of the coupling between clouds and the surface energy balance, the diurnal cycle of convection, and the coupling between convective precipitation and larger scale dynamic processes still present modeling challenges.
