Abbreviations are used so that the data can be presented in a compact form (Table 1). Several symbols are used in the biomass compartments tabulation:

1. The number 0.0 means that a value was measured and found to be insignificantly small.
2. The symbol IN. OV. is used to indicate that a particular understory compartment is lumped with the corresponding overstory compartment.
3. The symbol ** indicates a lumping of compartments. When this symbol appears it means that the particular compartment in question is lumped together with the next compartment below it in the column which has a numerical value attached.
4. Occasionally a range of values were given for a parameter measured at a site. The second value is included and identified by the parameter abbreviation with an 'X' as a suffix.
